Thames Valley Coins was started in 2017 by Josh L. (RCNA) and his wife Alexandra.
My journey in collecting started in 2004, when my Nonno would give my brother and I commemorative coins that he found in his change. After his passing, my parents continued that tradition with us. Over time I took an interest in older historical coins, and was fascinated by designs from Canada’s early years. I began to fill an album after looking for more coins in change, rolls, and from London Coin Centre. It was there where I met Tom and Aaron, who first introduced me to wider aspects of the hobby. They taught me how to buy smart and find the right coins to invest in, while avoiding problem coins.
My first foray into dealing began in 2017. As a university student, I would sell the occasional coin every few days to help make extra money. During this time, I met Kirk at Colonial Acres Coins, who was instrumental in helping me understand the basics of grading and dealing.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I began to devote more time to numismatic research and dealing. Since then we have organically grown a trusted client base of hundreds of collectors, from those looking to fill holes in their Whitman albums, to the top Canadian PCGS Registry sets.
Our main interest is in high-end Canadian coins, and we are proud to have done close to half a million dollars in transactions in the last two years alone. Thank you to all of those who have gotten us this far; we hope to continue serving the numismatic community with the utmost honesty, transparency, and respect.
1. Buy, Sell, & Trade
We take pride in having helped many high-end collectors fill missing holes in their collections. However, we strive to offer quality coins across all price ranges to cater to a wide array of hobbyists.
Although we mainly deal with high-end numismatics, we buy almost all Canadian coins across all date ranges. Whether they are raw, graded, "junk" silver, it does not matter. We strive to offer the best prices for your coins.
We transact mainly online, through channels such as Facebook, email, this website, and eBay. On occasion, you may spot us at shows where we usually walk the floor.
2. Appraisals
We are happy to provide free appraisals on all coins, with absolutely no pressure to sell.
3. Wantlists & Inquiries
We gladly accept wantlists to help personally curate your collection. Through our extensive contact list and researching capabilities, we can assist in finding you the coin you're looking for. Even if we have it in stock, if it's not *exactly* what you want, we will help find the right coin.
4. Collection Advisory
Wondering what direction to take regarding your collecting focus? Or maybe you want to ensure your coins are stored and/or displayed properly. Perhaps you want to know how to get the most money when it comes time to sell. Luckily, we offer free advice on building, storing, and selling your collection. Through every step of the collecting process, we are here to help.
We view high-end coins as more than just collectible pieces. They are art, an investment, something to be treasured and marveled at. The highest graded mint state coins are a miracle of preservation, while specimens and prooflikes are meant to exhibit the highest quality craftsmanship that the mint has to offer.
Many of our coins have gone on to find homes in some of Canada's premier registry sets. Some of these include The Kingston Collection, Burns Collection, Lantern Collection, ATHENA, Canadian Beaver Hunter, Lakeview Collection, Lawrence Family Collection, and more.
